"What the folk!"... Robbie says he imagined the music of The Staple Singers and wrote this pretty quickly, like in about one day. I expect that when the Hawks got their talented hands on it, it was heavily massaged by each one in the band. The Hawks were self-taught (except for Garth Hudson) and each had a sharp ear for the Chitlin Circuit roots of Jazz, Rock, and Gospel. Amazing for Canadians (Levon Helm was a Mississippi Delta native son). They created new music that was Folk-Rock, I guess you could say. But theirs was much closer to the roots than the Folk-Rock of Simon & Garfunkel; Crosby, Stills & Nash; or The Byrds. Takin it a step further, I believe they created the genre we now call "Americana". I grew up on the Canadian border, not too far from Neal Young and Robbie Robertson, and went to a sort of "music school" on The Toronto Islands each summer in the late 1960s and early 1970s. So I have a strong feel for The Hawks and the art they gave us. -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

I am HUGE Chris Stapleton fan & usually I cringe when someone attempts to sing Chris however I am diggin your sound! Chris has aa lot of soul himself, not particularly in this song but when he wants to but you did this song proud. You kinda remind me of a singer named Ricky Fante, if you haven't heard of him ,check him out. My fav genre is southern rock but love Motown, blues, soul mix. I hre up in 60's-70's my fav era of music really. Groups like Temptations, Four Tops, The Spinners, Smokey Robinson etc I could listen to all day
